T20 Charity Event – Sunday 24th July 2016

A huge thanks to all involved in Sunday’s T20 Cancer Charity Cricket Day which was a huge success for players and supporters alike raising a total of £540 to be shared between The Roy Castle Lung Cancer Foundation and The Robert Ogden Macmillan Cancer Centre.  Three teams, Spofforth, Bishop Auckland and Horsforth played in a tri-tournament with some really entertaining and competitive cricket on display.  Spofforth beat Bishop Auckland in the opening game with Luke Heinemann scoring 100 runs off 42 balls to chase down 206 in 16 overs.  Bishop Auckland lost to Horsforth CC in the second game setting up a final between Spofforth and themselves.  Horsforth overcame Spofforth but not without Heinemann once again chipping in with a classy ton.

Thanks to all the sponsors and everyone who worked so hard to make this a great event particularly Craig Hunt – next year please!!!!

IMG_0323The club’s camping site for the Tour de France turned out to be a huge success with over 40 pitches on both the Friday and Saturday evenings.  The site was staffed 24 hours a day from the Thursday evening when the bulk of our visitors arrived although one gentleman arrived on the Tuesday afternoon and stayed with us until Sunday.IMG_0316
On the Friday evening we laid on a concert to which many of the villagers attended along with our campers.IMG_0312
The comments we received from our guests both as they left and afterwards by e-mail or letters were amazing and a sample of these appear below.
The success of the event would not have been possible without the support of our many volunteers and we are extremely grateful to them.IMG_0311

“You did a fantastic job and it did not go un-noticed. The boys did not want to come home” (the Huse family from London)

“We would just to say a MASSIVE thank you to everyone it was absolutely brilliant” (Elaine Cox, Brierley Hill)

“I would like to thank you for a wonderful weekend. We are still buzzing and wish we were heading up there again (Gareth Jones Wales)
