T20 Charity Event – Sunday 24th July 2016

A huge thanks to all involved in Sunday’s T20 Cancer Charity Cricket Day which was a huge success for players and supporters alike raising a total of £540 to be shared between The Roy Castle Lung Cancer Foundation and The Robert Ogden Macmillan Cancer Centre.  Three teams, Spofforth, Bishop Auckland and Horsforth played in a tri-tournament with some really entertaining and competitive cricket on display.  Spofforth beat Bishop Auckland in the opening game with Luke Heinemann scoring 100 runs off 42 balls to chase down 206 in 16 overs.  Bishop Auckland lost to Horsforth CC in the second game setting up a final between Spofforth and themselves.  Horsforth overcame Spofforth but not without Heinemann once again chipping in with a classy ton.

Thanks to all the sponsors and everyone who worked so hard to make this a great event particularly Craig Hunt – next year please!!!!

1st Division Set For Thrilling Finale at School Lane

Twenty one weeks into what has turned out to be an excellent season for Captain Tom Clark and his 1st XI and the stage is set for a thrilling climax to the season when Spofforth take on Darley at home and title contestants Ouseburn host Goldsborough.

After having played catch-up and overtaken Blubberhouses into second spot Clark’s men found themselves two points behind Ouseburn heading into the penultimate game of the season.  Spofforth took a five point victory at home to Killinghall whilst Ouseburn managed only a tie and three points away to Alne.  Spofforth finish the week on top, one point ahead of nearest rivals and fellow Atkinson Swires Cup finalists Ouseburn (Spofforth came second in that one!).

Spofforth need to finish their match with at least equal points to those gained by Ouseburn in their final match in order to be certain of victory by a margin of one point.  In the event of the two teams finishing the season on equal points then a calculation involving the two team’s batting and bowling averages will be made by the league to sort out a winner.

Needless to say Tom and the boys would really appreciate all the support that can be mustered on the day.  The match will start at 1.00pm and all drinks prices have been reduced to a maximum of £2.00 for the day.  A fish and chip supper will be available if pre-ordered, if you’d like to order then please drop Steve Gill a text or call on 07881 957395

On behalf of the entire Spofforth membership warm congratulations and the very best of luck to the 1st XI for the Championship decider.
