On Saturday 8th September Rachael Bateman, our hard working junior and volunteer co-ordinator, will set out on one of cycling’s greatest challenges, to ride from Land’s End to John O’Groats in the Deloitte Ride Across Britain.
The route is approximately 960 miles broken into 9 daily stages averaging 106 miles per day! The ride is one of the classic rides of the cycling world and takes in some of the most beautiful parts of the country from barren moorlands and majestic highlands to lush green valleys and winding country lanes. The ride will involve total climbs of approximately 20,000 meters that’s 17 times up Alpe D’Huez or 4 times the amount of climbing involved in La Marmotte in the Alps. Needless to say Rachael has been training all year and if she’s not to be found at junior cricket or work then she’ll most probably be out on the bike.
Rachael is raising money for the Bobby Moore Foundation funding research into bowel cancer and which has provided invaluable support to her family recently. Should you wish to support Rachael in this epic challenge and in raising money to fund research into a disease which, if detected early enough, has a 90% survival rate, then please follow the link below to make a donation,
I’m sure that you’ll join us in wishing Rachael good luck in this epic challenge.
A huge thank you to all who organised, donated, attended (despite the rain and England’s football escapades) or helped in any way with the above event. We raised £550 for the Sadie Rose Clifford Appeal.
Very sadly we were informed over the weekend that followed that Sadie Rose’s cancer has been found to have spread and that a decision has been taken by her family to stop the planned treatment and her care is to be palliative. I have spoken to Sadie Roses’s grandfather who has informed me that her third birthday party is being brought forward from August and that she is to be given a very special “Disney” themed party. We have decided to donate the money raised directly to the family in order that they can make this a truely memorable event and I know that you will support us in this decision.
I would like to especially thank Stray FM, Mark Abram, Ian Giddings, Terry, Darren & Bev Kavanagh and Sandra Gill without whom the evening would not have been possible.
We will be staging a Race Night in the clubhouse on Friday 15th June 2012 commencing at 8.00pm.
This is a fun night for all the family. There will be hot food and snacks available with a licensed bar together with free car parking and entry.
There will be 8 races, each with 8 horses, with a prize for the winning owner of each race. You can become an owner for just £5.00 and will get the chance to name your own horse. We are also seeking sponsors for two of the races at just £50.00.
The event is in aid of a local charity, the Sadie Rose Clifford Appeal. Over the last four years the club will have raised in excess of £10,000 for local charities, the Yorkshire Air Ambulance, Martin House Children’s Hospice and the Sadie Rose Appeal.
If you would like to know more, or wish to buy a horse or even sponsor a race please contact Terry Kavanagh on 07983 671855 or Steve Gill on 07881 957395.
