Junior Cricket

In 1953 the club formed its first junior team, at under 16 level, and now enters teams at under 9, 11, 13, 15 and 17, playing both league and cup cricket in the Nidderdale Junior Cricket League.  In 2011 we has in excess of 100 junior members, both boys and girls, in all age groups and our Friday evening coaching sessions throughout the spring and summer regularly attract in excess of 70 youngsters for coaching by our team of 17 ECB qualified coaches and assistant coaches.

In 2004 the club achieved Sport England Clubmark accreditation, the first club in North Yorkshire and only the third in the whole of Yorkshire at that time to do so.  This has been been renewed twice since, most recently in 2011 for a further three year period.  Clubmark is a guarantee to all parents that the club operates in a child friendly manner and carries out all the statutory checks on a regular basis.

Following this accreditation the club has achieved Focus Club status which gives us priority on funding and other services provided by the ECB including a dedicated contact in Ian Powell, Cricket Development Manager for North Yorkshire.  As part of our Focus Club status we take part in the “Chance to Shine” program sending coaches to local primary schools.

Our volunteer coaching staff consist of UKCC level’s 1 & 2 and we are committed to constantly adding to our strong base of trained coaches.  All volunteers both qualified and unqualified are CRB checked and our qualified volunteers are trained in First Aid and have been on a Safeguarding and Protecting Children course.  In addition the club has two Child Welfare Officers responsible for the implementation of all welfare policy.

The coaching season begins with our winter nets programme which runs for eight weeks from February.  Regular coaching is preceded by our registration evening and begins in ernest in April, 6.30pm – 8.00pm, running throughout the summer until the end of the school term.

Membership of our junior section entitles parents or guardians to social membership of the club.  Most will take advantage by enjoying the facilities of our well stocked bar in the company of friends whilst the juniors enjoy their cricket.

We look forward to welcoming you to the club this forthcoming season and are sure that both yourselves and your children will enjoy being part of “Club Spofforth”.
