The 1sts got back to winning ways with a solid if unspectacular win at home against Bishop Thornton, on a warm day (for once) Tom C ran through Thornton to dismiss them for a much below par 125. Early wickets threatened the reply but the returning Gannon was as solid as ever and saw us home with good support from Fletch.
An under-strength 2nds made the trip to Bishop Thornton for a top of the table clash and returned beaten by 4 wickets. A poor start was halted by the veterans Nick and Fozzie, assisted by a rapid 40 from Brad. 160 was again below par and despite regularly taking wickets we were unable to prevent Thornton taking 5 points.

On Sunday 15th June, 9 teams – Studley Royal, Ouseburn, Harrogate, Goldsborough, Masham, Ripley, Beckwithshaw, North Stainley and Spofforth – competed in the Nidderdale League Under 7s Tournament here at Spofforth CC. After a series of exciting group games, North Stainley, Beckwithshaw, Studley Royal and Goldsborough reached the semi-finals. In a couple of well contested games, Beckwithshaw and North Stainley were victorious and went on to contest a competitive final. The scores in the final were Beckwithshaw 221 and North Stainley 232. This meant that North Stainley were the 2014 Champions following on from 2013 winners, Follifoot. The medals this year were presented by the Nidderdale Junior League Secretary, Mick Dawson and Ryan Bradshaw, Captain of Harrogate Cricket Club.
The day was a great success and it was brilliant to witness so many keen and talented young cricketers enjoying the matches and playing the game in the right spirit. It was easy to see the future stars of tomorrow. Spofforth will be hosting the 2015 Tournament and it is hoped that the competition will go from strength to strength. Many thanks also to parents and coaches who all contributed to a successful day.
See week 6 comments……..it rained……..
Apologies for the delay in updates – holidays and all that – but we will get back to normal service this week. So week 7, Burton Leonard at home for the 1sts, after a couple of indifferent performances back to our best with a thumping 200+ run win. Despite the pre game loss of the Gannon due to back trouble runs for the top 4 highlighted by a rapid 80 odd from Tom C saw us amass a season high 270-3, followed by a great all round effort with the ball, Mike, G, Rossi, Jimmy and Tom all picking up wickets as Burton folded.
2nds made the long trip to Scotland (Middleham, but feels like going to Scotland) and again the youngsters shone as we bowled Middleham out for 70 and Joe and Tom L drove us to a very comfortable 8 wicket win.
Once again we are hosting the annual Nidderdale League Under 7s Tournament. The event takes place this Sunday 15th June and the action starts at 10 am. We will have 12 teams – Studley Royal, Pannal, Masham, Ripley, Follifoot, Goldsborough, North Stainley, Beckwithshaw, Ripon, Harrogate, Ouseburn and ourselves – competing to win the competition. Will last year’s winners Follifoot triumph again?
Besides the cricket, there will be a BBQ, refreshments and the bar will be open. Please come along!
Well that was an easy one to write…… it rained……
