T20 Charity Event – Sunday 24th July 2016

A huge thanks to all involved in Sunday’s T20 Cancer Charity Cricket Day which was a huge success for players and supporters alike raising a total of £540 to be shared between The Roy Castle Lung Cancer Foundation and The Robert Ogden Macmillan Cancer Centre.  Three teams, Spofforth, Bishop Auckland and Horsforth played in a tri-tournament with some really entertaining and competitive cricket on display.  Spofforth beat Bishop Auckland in the opening game with Luke Heinemann scoring 100 runs off 42 balls to chase down 206 in 16 overs.  Bishop Auckland lost to Horsforth CC in the second game setting up a final between Spofforth and themselves.  Horsforth overcame Spofforth but not without Heinemann once again chipping in with a classy ton.

Thanks to all the sponsors and everyone who worked so hard to make this a great event particularly Craig Hunt – next year please!!!!

Week 21 Review

Well after a number of near misses the 1sts finally clicked into gear and turned in a good performance to end the spectre of relegation with a solid win against another of the strugglers Goldsborough. Batting first on a murky end of season sort of a day solid contributions throughout the top order, highlighted by 60 from Tom C and a fine unbeaten 40 from Joe saw us set ‘Boro a stiff target of over 230.
Tom C and G then strangled the response in the early overs forcing the run rate up, before Mike picked up his 1st 5- to demonstrate his value to the side. Given the lack of options some weeks the workload Mike has had to take was rewarded as he took out the early order and a couple late on as Goldsborough closed 8 down well short of the victory target.
The 2nds travelled to Glasshouses and well frankly took a bit of a kicking against the divisional champions. Not a lot of positives in a 9 wicket drubbing apart from some solid efforts with the bat from Ben, Toby and Nick H.
Final game of the season next week – be good to finish on a positive note…….
Finally, congratulations to Ouseburn who sealed the 1st division title at the weekend.

Week 20 Review

Well, getting fed up with all this rain…. nice day Friday, nice day Sunday but not a nice day on Saturday!
1sts travelled to the notoriously wet Bishop Thornton, at least it always seems to be wet when we go there…. made a start in the damp conditions bowling first but were soon washed out with Thornton in a decent position.
2nds also made a start at home to the same opposition and had batted 32 overs when rain delayed proceedings for 2 hours, Outcome being that our innings was prematurely ended handing the initiative to Thornton in a run chase on a dry track and a bar of soap as a ball. To be fair, we hadn’t batted particularly well making 100-7 off 32 overs. Thornton chased this down for 5 with 2 overs of their 30 to spare. One of our best efforts of the year with the ball ultimately in vain by an attack all 18 or under.
